The »Biological Red« light profile combines safety with biodiversity protection for particularly sensitive areas, set to the environment’s natural rhythm

Recent scientific studies show that many insect species lack receptors for light in the red wavelength range and are therefore less responsive to red light. A paradigm shift toward warm or red light sources may provide sufficient light for the human eye while also protecting insects.

2700 K is more efficient than red lighting, but it also has greater impact when used in nature conservation areas with increased insect activity.

The »Biological Red« light profile takes the activities of a large proportion of insects into account and changes the light colour between red spectrum and 2700K depending on their activity in the relevant months. The light intensity also adapts to the natural rhythms of insects and biodiversity.

In this way, spaces are illuminated with insects and biodiversity in mind, with little to no effort.

Scientifically based modulation of light colour and light intensity at different times of the year and day

The course of a year
for natural zones

Winter

In cold winter months, when insects are not active, a more efficient light colour of 2700 K can be used. Due to the longer duration of the night in winter, the energy saving potential is 30-40% higher when used during this time.

Spring to autumn

In the warmer months, when animals and insects are most active, red light is used to protect insects and biodiversity within their natural habitat.

for mix and culture zones

In zones where warm, white light at busier times is desired, it is also possible to change the light colour throughout the night. In this profile, during the insect-active summer months the 2700 K light colour is only briefly used and then switches to red light later at night.

The course of a day

1

At sunset, the luminaire switches independently to 2700K with 100% of the predefined light output.

2

About one hour after dusk, the light colour changes to red and the light intensity is reduced.

3

At night, when fewer people are out, the light intensity is reduced again.

4

About one hour before sunrise, the light colour changes to 2700 K and the intensity is increased again.

Luminaires available with the »Biological Red« light profile

The thought-through intelligence is entirely pre-programmed in each luminaire. The luminaire is installed and commissioned just as before. There is no need for time-consuming planning and support. The only thing we need from you is the location and type of space of your project. Based on this information, the sun path and other intelligence are automatically calculated and programmed.
