A new life for Place Condorcet
Project

Redevelopment in the City Centre
Bourg-la-Reine, France
Just eight kilometres south of Paris, Bourg-la-Reine is a green and vibrant town in the Hauts-de-Seine department and part of the Paris metropolitan area. At the heart of the town, Place Condorcet has undergone a major transformation, becoming an inviting public space that brings together social interaction, everyday life and relaxation.
The redesign includes lush planting, generous pedestrian areas, seating, water features and lighting. The aim of the project was to create a place where people can come together, linger and enjoy spending time. New planting and shaded areas provide inviting spaces to stay, while water features and misting systems offer additional comfort, particularly during the warmer months.

To create the square’s nighttime identity, the town of Bourg-la-Reine worked with lighting design practice Concepto. At the heart of the concept is a warm and inviting atmosphere that supports the different ways in which the square is used. The lighting guides people along the paths, highlights its different areas and brings the landscape to life without illuminating the entire space uniformly. Instead of a blanket of light, a differentiated lighting landscape provides orientation while creating a pleasant and communicative environment.

Background
The RGBW optic creates accents for special places. It is based on a ring-shaped arrangement of LEDs within a rotationally symmetrical free-form reflector, enabling precise colour mixing within the optical unit itself.

For the implementation of the lighting concept, Concepto selected luminaires from Selux’s Olivio product family: Olivio, Olivio Gobo and Olivio RGBW. Working together, the three variants create different qualities of light and give Place Condorcet a distinctive nighttime identity. Olivio forms the basis of the lighting scheme, while Olivio Gobo and Olivio RGBW introduce targeted, more creative accents and make it possible to vary the lighting atmosphere for events and special occasions.
With its new lighting concept, the square takes on a restrained, contemporary character after dark. The light does not take centre stage; instead, it supports people, makes the space intuitive to experience and enhances the landscape. In this way, Place Condorcet becomes a place where people can pause, meet and experience Bourg-la-Reine in a new way.
