Replacement kits in Salzburg's old town

Impressive city mountains and the towering Hohensalzburg Fortress, visible from afar, shape the panorama of the Austrian city of Salzburg, which lies on the northern edge of the Alps. The Old Town itself has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996. Here, historical luminaires illuminate the surroundings, for which the city of Salzburg began searching for a new lighting solution at the end of 2020.
In the competition to develop a suitable solution for the city's historical luminaires, the replacement kit developed by Selux prevailed due to its sophisticated design and excellent lighting technology. The goal was to preserve historical square-column lanterns, where the light unit is placed beneath the canopy.
The developed replacement kits with free-form lens optics meet specific requirements. A circular mounting plate allows quick installation into the shape of the old luminaires as well as horizontal rotation of the entire unit by various degrees. The split circuit board can also be adjusted individually. This enables the replacement kits to illuminate in two different directions, for example at an external corner of a building or at intersections. An integrated fine-adjustment mechanism additionally allows compensation for any misalignment of the old housings caused by their historical design, or adaptation of the lighting unit to topographical conditions.
Background
A custom-developed lighting solution makes it possible to preserve the historic square-section candelabra luminaires. Replacement kits with innovative LED modules meet the specific requirements and cast Salzburg’s Old Town in a new light.
