The story of our company is a tale of ideas and visions. More than anything however, it is one of a passion for light that has being going on for 70 years now.
It all began with a battery charger, which lit up a dark period in history, simplifying the lives of Berliners during the Airlift. The original name of the company back in 1948, when it was founded by the electrical engineer Hermann Bansbach, was Semperlux – meaning always light. Quite a few things have changed since then but one thing has remained – our passion for innovation, for first-class design and outstanding lighting solutions, which we use for the sustainable design of living spaces. Always closely connected with human beings and their needs, our aim is to enhance quality of life. Today, the Selux brand is a name with a long tradition that stands for modular, intuitively understood products and product families that blend perfectly into smart cities.
Over the past 70 years, we have had the pleasure of working on some of the most attractive lighting projects in the world. Together with our partners, we redesigned the lighting on the Kurfürstendamm in Berlin with the Hardenberg candelabrum, rebuilt the historic Schupmann candelabra that illuminate the Unter den Linden boulevard and Pariser Platz by the Brandenburg Gate. Selux luminaires also adorn Oxford Street in London, the Old Port of Marseilles, the former container harbour Barangaroo Reserve in Sydney and the 9⁄11 Memorial in New York.
Since being founded 70 years ago, Selux head office has been located in the metropolis of Berlin, from where we still operate today, as well as from many other locations worldwide. We look forward to collaborating with you on the vision of a smart city, regardless of whether you are a planner, contracting authority, constructor or operator of exterior lighting.
