Berlin, July 2015 – changes at management level at Berlin-based luminaire manufacturer Selux AG: Jürgen Hess (50) joined the Board of Directors at Selux AG on 27. July, 2015, thus concluding the long-term transition from a family-run business to a managerled company. Jürgen Hess will join Felix Grönwaldt (49), who was appointed to the board in April 2014. While Jürgen Hess will take on the position of Head of Technical Management, Felix Grönwaldt will be responsible for Commercial Management and Sales.
The succession planning announced when Felix Grönwaldt was appointed to the board is now coming into effect: long-standing Member of the Board Ulrich Misgeld (64) will be leaving the Executive Board, as planned, on 30. September this year. The Board of Directors and the members of the Supervisory Board at Selux AG express their thanks to Ulrich Misgeld for his significant commitment over the years as well as for his continued efforts to achieve successful teamwork and collaboration. Udo Bansbach (69), who as the son of the founder of the company, Hermann Bansbach, has also played an active role in management for many years, will be taking these changes at board level as the right time to step down from his role as consultant to the Board on 30. September, 2015. As the owner of Selux AG, and a member of the Supervisory Board, Udo Bansbach will, however, remain closely linked with the company.
Graduate engineer and MBA, Jürgen Hess combines his serious passion for people and technology with extensive experience and market knowledge of company management. After studying Electrical Engineering at the RWTH in Aachen, he joined Nokia, where he quickly became involved in project development and took on managerial responsibility. In the course of his career he has held positions such as Head of Research and Development at Leica Camera and at the lighting manufacturer Erco. In his last job, Jürgen Hess was the Managing Director of the Technical Division at Bürstner, manufacturer of recreational vehicles.
„It is only possible to truly realise visions and achieve fascinating innovations for designers and customers, if you have a talented and motivated team to back you,“ claims the Krefeld-born manager and father of two daughters. „I also see Selux as a leader in the lighting industry when it comes to technology, design and service”, formulating the goals he has set for the tasks that lie ahead.
Felix Grönwaldt places great faith in the new, and considerably younger, Board of Management and foresees a successful future for the company: “I am really looking forward to working closely with Jürgen Hess to continue to strengthen the Selux brand,” he states. Plans are already in the making for the lighting industry‘s leading trade fair, Light+Building 2016 in the coming spring in Frankfurt, where Selux will be exhibiting a number of new products – all in the spirit of optimism that currently holds sway within the company, which is embarking on a new chapter in the history of its existence.
The Selux Group is a leading supplier of sustainable lighting solutions for interior and exterior applications. The Selux sustainability strategy has led the company to define even higher standards of excellence when it comes to energy efficiency, ergonomics and product design. The company was founded in Berlin in 1948 and now has a workforce of 565 at different locations in Europe, North America and Australia. Selux maintained their successful growth trend in 2014, raising their turnover by 8.9 % to 95 million euros. Growth was driven in the main by the works in the USA (+ 31.4 %) and Germany (+ 11.5 %).
At present, more than 50% of the company’s turnover is realised through the sales of luminaires equipped with LED technology. This is expected to increase to 70 % by the end of 2016, indicating that the complete changeover to “digital” light is not that far away. Using intelligent lighting controls, LED lighting solutions can lead to further substantial energy savings. Selux will be focussing on more development in this area in future. Well-known projects realised by Selux in-clude the inner-city “Park am Gleisdreieck” in Berlin, the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, the Old Harbour in Marseille, and the 9/11 Memorial in NYC.
