Connecting people through art, the Tacoma Art Museum serves the diverse communities of the Northwest through its collection, exhibitions and learning programs, with an emphasis on Northwestern art and artists.
The building’s interior reflects much of what the museum is about, from accessible spaces for education and outreach programs, to the Mt. Rainier-inspired ramp that spirals upward among the galleries. The 12,000 square feet of galleries are large and well lit, and flexibility is provided through interconnected galleries and halls, and movable walls.
That’s why Selux's M60 surface-mount pendant fixtures were used in many key portions of the facility. The architect liked the custom-extruded, low profile fixtures as they worked well in long linear areas, such as the upper lobby of the facility, as well as in bold geometric configurations used in the resource center, cafeteria and art studio.
