Sidwell Friends has been awarded a Platinum level LEED rating for their middle school in Washington, DC. It utilizes Selux M100 Recessed fixtures and is the first secondary school in the US to have a LEED Platinum rating and the first LEED Platinum building in the District of Columbia.

Sidwell Friends Middle School was awarded with a Platinum rating in March 2007 after being completed in September 2006. The sustainability features of the school are abundant, including a constructed wetland, water-efficient landscaping, and local and regional materials, recycled materials, a green roof, natural ventilation, and use of sunlight. To fully complete the circle of sustainability in the Sidwell School, the artificial lighting had to be energy efficient, durable and manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner. The architecturally designed Selux M100 linear fluorescent system easily met all of these qualifications and was chosen as the recessed component of the interior lighting solution.

Classroom environments demand uniform, glare-free lighting to engender the most suitable conditions for learning and concentration. Selux M100 fixtures fitted with parabolic louvers or specially designed lenses offer excellent light uniformity, very low glare, and high efficiency. All Selux M-Series fixtures are constructed of high purity, recyclable extruded aluminum, and precision designed components that make for a quality product that will last for many decades with little maintenance.

M100 offers design flexibility for an extruded form in recessed, suspended, wall and surface mounted extrusions. This is the ideal extruded form, allowing for endcaps flush to walls or other structural forms, angular connections at any location, and clean and simple installations.
