New developments for prestigious school
International Association of Lighting Designers | IALD, 2008 Award of Excellence.
This small, but elegant, project for the School of American Ballet (SAB) was part of a large redevelopment of the Lincoln Center. Lighting designer Suzan Tillotson was tasked to illuminate a unique dance environment. Selux’s M100 and a customized version of the company’s equally popular M60 met the objectives for this project “bright and shadow-free, with beautiful color-rendering, no direct view to the lamps and minimal distraction when looking in the mirrors.” The result is equally pleasing for all participants.
The innovative design by architects Diller Scofidio & Renfro features two new glass studios that seem to "float" within the existing space of SAB's dance studios, maximizing space and providing much more room for simultaneous instruction and practice for students. The new studios, constructed across three giant steel beams, also feature soundproofing to allow for multiple simultaneous programs between the two floors. The Selux M100 Recessed fixtures allowed for seamless and uniform lighting with an architectural focus.
