Tacoma, Washington’s Thea Foss Waterway Esplanade is a major project to transform the city’s former 1.5-mile industrial center into an energized and inviting cultural and public access center. The esplanade, which will stretch along the entire one and one-half miles of the western side of the Thea Foss Waterway, will reconnect the downtown business district and the Union Station Historical District to the waterfront.
The design team chose Selux's MTR Column fixtures for use along the esplanade. The fixture’s clean design and directional lighting capabilities work well in the mixed-use setting of walkways, public event plazas, marinas, shops and museums. The fixture’s patented refractor rings reduce glare and enhance visual comfort along the pathway, which helps to encourage a strong influx of people to patronize the area after dusk.
While the project is still a work in progress, the column fixtures are already emblematic of the area’s rise to prominence, providing a ready backdrop for what will one day become the longest waterfront walkway in the nation.
