Continuing revitalization and supporting local art in Tacoma
The D St. Bridge is part of the continuing effort to transform the Thea Foss Waterway in Tacoma, Washington. The goal is to turn the area into a green, energized and inviting cultural and public access center. The project is also known as "Rails to Sails", it centers on a new elevated roadway crossing the Northern Pacific Railroad site and the Foss Waterway. Rails to Sails was designed by the local artist Vicki Scuri with the Design Team, and completed in collaboration with the city of Tacoma WA. The project is located in close proximity to the Thea Foss Waterway Esplanade, another prestigious Selux installation. (See link on left for more info).
This project features custom "sail lights"- custom-painted Selux Ritorno RA fixtures with "sails" affixed to the top. The unique, graceful form and uniform indirect lighting of the Ritorno RA provided the perfect blend of performance engineering and flexibility of design, allowing for comfortable Metal-Halide street lighting and the perfect aesthetic form to complete the artistic vision of the project.
The Ritorno RA (Round Asymmetrical) utilizes standard medium base H.I.D. lamps up to 150 watts, 70 or 150 watt T6 Metal Halide, or QL Induction lamps up to 165 watts. Features include high efficiency output, sealed optics, marine grade stainless steel fasteners and a die cast aluminum lamp/ballast chamber with twist lock components for ease of servicing.
